Present Status of school

Physical facilities
The single story building consisting of four blocks which houses 7 classrooms, an office, a staff-room, a store room, a science room, a resource center and a canteen , all of which needed to be "converted" and " modified" many times over for present use today.

History of SJK(T) YMHA, Taiping.

History of the School

This is one of the oldest Tamil Primary School in Taiping which is located in Larut Matang & Selama district .

Year Establish : 1918

Government : British - Colonial

Reasons : To cater the Tamil community that lived in
Taiping and its surrounding as a social and
religious center.

Landowners : The Young men's Hindu Association,
Taiping.

Status of school when first extablished

Physical facilities : 1 small building with 1 classroom

Highlights in the history of the school

Erection of a school building
The small single structure that was built in 1918 was renovated in 1922 into a school building. By the year 1937 three more classrooms were added.
In 1991, the old building was again renovated and a new 'block' with
3 classrooms, a store and toilets were built with the help from YB Dato Sri S.Samyveloo.
A new 'block' consisting of 2 classrooms and a store was built in 2001 with funds from the government .

Change of school's name
The school first known as Young Men's Hindu Association Tamil School is now known as SJK(T) YMHA, Taiping.

Change of school's status
Since its establishment, the tamil language has been the medium of instruction in the school. However in 1974 the school was converted into a Malay medium school. In 1990 the school was again reconverted into a Tamil school with the efforts of the PIBG. It has since retained the Tamil Language as its medium of instruction.
